Workshops and group discussions
Beyond one-on-one and couples sessions, I offer talks and workshops for teams, organisations, and community groups, drawing on the same Eight Needs Framework that underpins my individual and couples work. Sessions are tailored to the group, from leadership teams navigating change, to communities looking at personal growth and wellbeing.
The framework behind our Motivations and Actions
Whether it's a team that won't buy in, a relationship stuck on the same argument, or a quiet sense of being worn down, there's usually a specific, nameable need underneath it. The Eight Needs Framework gives you the language to see it clearly, and a real starting point for what to do next.

Why is this important to you
Leading diverse teams
Certainty, autonomy, competence, significance. A practical way to read what drives each person on a team, and lead accordingly.
Relationships & family wellbeing
Connection, certainty, significance. Seeing the need underneath the argument, and rebuilding closeness after years of distance.
Personal resilience & wellbeing
Growth, purpose, variety. A clearer picture of what's actually depleting you, and how to rebuild direction, not just cope.
and eight-needs framework
How the framework works
Most explanations for conflict, disengagement, or burnout stop at the surface: a personality clash, a bad week, someone needing to try harder. But those explanations rarely hold up, mostly because they don't point to anything you can actually do next.
The Eight Needs Framework works differently.
It starts from a simple, testable observation: almost all of that frustration, in a team, a relationship, or someone's own life, traces back to one or more of eight core needs going unmet: certainty, autonomy, variety, significance, competence, connection, growth, or purpose.
The useful part isn't the list itself, it's what happens once a need is actually named:
Once the actual need is on the table, the conversation stops being about blame and starts being about what to change, which is a genuinely different, and much more workable, conversation.
This is the same lens I use in individual and couples counselling, and it's the lens behind every workshop below. Each one is built around a specific cluster of these eight needs, chosen for what that particular group is actually up against, not a generic template applied to every room.

Leading diverse teams
Managers are often taught one leadership style and expected to apply it evenly across a team of genuinely different people, different generations, different personalities, and different things that actually motivate them. That mismatch shows up as resistance to change, quiet disengagement, and buy-in that never quite arrives no matter how reasonable the strategy is.
This session gives leaders a practical way to read what's actually driving each person on their team, certainty, autonomy, recognition, growth, and to adjust how they lead accordingly, without needing to become a different manager for every individual.

Relationships & family wellbeing
The same argument on repeat, feeling unheard even when you're technically talking, one partner withdrawing while the other pursues. These are rarely about the subject they appear to be about.
This session helps couples, families, and community groups see the difference between the surface disagreement and the actual unmet need driving it, connection, certainty, significance, and gives practical, usable tools for de-escalating conflict and rebuilding a sense of closeness, even after years of quiet distance.
You'll leave with:
Personal resilience & wellbeing
Burnout rarely announces itself clearly. It tends to show up as vague exhaustion, a sense of being stuck, or simply running on empty while still showing up for everyone else.
This session helps participants get a clearer, more specific picture of what's actually depleting them, rather than a generic label of "stress," and builds practical, sustainable ways to rebuild capacity and reconnect with a sense of direction, not just cope until the next crisis.

Why work with me
I bring a slightly different mix to this work than most facilitators: formal training as an ASCHP-registered Specialist Wellness Counsellor, a postgraduate background in theology and psychology, and over a decade of hands-on experience across counselling, coaching, and organisational settings in South Africa and New Zealand.
I grew up in the Karoo and started my career in a Xhosa church ministry in the Koue Bokkeveld, so when I'm working with agricultural teams and family businesses specifically, it isn't a generic corporate program adapted for the room. I aim to ground it in an actual understanding of the pressures of that world. Every session is built around the group in front of me, not a fixed template.
The same framework underlies it all, yes, but not the application. That is unique to you.

Being a manager, you are faced with different walks of life and personality types in your team. Gideon Hanekom gave us the tools to lead this diverse personal group and getting them to buy in to our strategy... He had a positive impact on our new way of leading.
Danie Swanepoel // Afgri, Vredendal
Gideon reminded me how to be a great husband. When I first met Gideon, I had been married for seven years and was starting to become complacent in my marriage. The sessions helped strengthen my relationship with my wife, to ensure we live a happy and fulfilling life together.
